‘ਲੋਹਾ ਕੁੱਟ’ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਕਰੜੀ, ਨਿਰਦਈ ਨਿਤਾਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਹੈ । ਲੋਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਭੱਠੀ ਪਾਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਧੁਖਦੀ, ਬਲਦੀ ਤੇ ਮੱਚਦੀ ਹੈ । ਇਹ ਇਸੇ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਤਮਕ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਹਥੌੜੇ ਦੀ ਸੱਟ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਇਕ ਦੇ ਕਰੜੇ ਸੁਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ । ਪਾਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਤੇ ਵਾਰਤਾਲਾਪ ਵਿਚ ਕਠੋਰਤਾ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵੁਕਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ । ਕਿਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਵਾਰਤਾਲਾਪ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਵਿਮਈ ਬੋਲੀ ਭਖ਼ਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪਾਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰੀਵ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ।
“Loha Kutt” symbolizes the harsh and merciless oppression of life. The blacksmith’s forge reflects the mental toil of the characters, as it smolders and blazes in accordance with their struggles. This play demands a symbolic expression of these themes. The hammer strikes resonate with the protagonist's tough nature, while the dialogue among the characters is marked by rigidity, lacking emotional depth. At times, poetic language emerges in the conversations, serving to highlight the internal psychological conflicts of the characters.
ਬਾਪੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਚੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕੋ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ’ਤੇ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਮੁੱਚੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਣਾ।
ਇਤਫ਼ਾਕ ਇਹ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਦੋਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਲਵਿਦਾ ਕਹਿ ਗਏ। ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਿਉਦੇ ਜੀਅ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਚਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਫਲਾਣੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਘਟਨਾ/ਪਾਤਰ ਉਸ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਨੇ...
ਚਲੋ ਖ਼ੈਰ, ਜੋ ਹੋਣਾ ਸੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਬਾਪੂ ਕਥਾਕਾਰ ਵੱਡਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਕਹਿਣੀ ਆਉਦੀ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ/ਨਾਵਲ ਲਿਖੇ, ਪਰ ਕਥਾਰਸ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ’ਚ ਮਕਬੂਲ ਬਾਪੂ, ਨਾਵਲ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਮਕਬੂਲ ਹੋਇਆ। ਨਾਵਲਗਿਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਢਾਹ ਲਾਈ, ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਨਾਵਲ, ਉਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝ ਆਉਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਾਵਲ ਲਿਖਣ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਕਿਉ ਅਪਣਾਇਆ। ਬਾਪੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਧੁਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਬਾਪੂ ਕਿੱਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਥਾਕਾਰ ਸੀ। ਕਈ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਤਾਂ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਿੱਕਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ‘‘ਵਾਹ ਬਾਪੂ ਕਮਾਲ ਕਰਤੀ।’’
ਇਹ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਖੇਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਰੰਗ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ’ਚ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਪੈ ਗਏ।
ਐਨੀ ਸਾਦਗੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਰਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਪਰਿਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਿਰਜਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਿੱਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਣਖੀ ਜਿਉਦਾ ਹੈ...

Collecting all of Bapu's works in one place means preserving all of his stories.
Coincidentally, I read all these stories when he said goodbye to this world. I think if I had read them while he was alive, I could have created some dialogue with him, saying that the incident/character in this particular story belongs to that village...
Well, what has happened has happened. Bapu was a great storyteller. He knew how to tell a story; he wrote stories and novels, but the essence of storytelling remained with him.
In the realm of storytelling, he was popular, and he became popular in the field of novels as well. Novel writing overshadowed his stories, but when we read his stories and then the novels, we begin to understand why he chose the path of writing novels over storytelling. By reading Bapu's stories and delving into them, we realize what a great storyteller he was. After reading many stories, an inner voice emerges, saying, "Wow, Bapu, you did an amazing job."
These stories spread the colors of life that have faded in the dust of time.
With such simplicity, these stories reveal the essence of life and have created a definition of Punjabi storytelling that proves Ankhiji lives on...
