1706 ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਤਲਵੰਡੀ ਸਾਬੋ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੱਖਣ ਵੱਲ ਸਫਰ ਆਰੰਭ ਕੀਤਾ। ਫਰਵਰੀ 1707 ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਖਣ ਵੱਲ ਇਹ ਸਫਰ ਅੱਧ-ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਗਰਾ ਵੱਲ ਕੂਚ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਿਆ। ਇਸੇ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਅਖੀਰ ’ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਗਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਦੱਖਣ ਵੱਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਆਰੰਭਿਆ। 1708 ਵਿਚ ਹੈਦਰਾਬਾਦ ਸੂਬੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਨੰਦੇੜ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਮ ’ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਡੇਰਾ ਲਾਇਆ। ਇਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਭੇਜਿਆ। ਇਥੇ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਤਾ-ਗੱਦੀ ਸੌਂਪੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਥੇ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਅੰਤਮ ਭਾਣਾ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ। ਇਸ ਲਿਹਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਦੱਖਣ ਫੇਰੀ ਅਤੇ 1708 ਦਾ ਸਾਲ, ਇਹ ਦੋ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਪੰਥ ਦੀ ਹੋਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਬਦਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਈਆਂ। ਇਹ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਇਸੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਰਚਨਾਤਮਕ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਭਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤਲਵੰਡੀ ਸਾਬੋ ਤੋਂ ਨੰਦੇੜ ਤਕ ਦੇ ਸਫਰ ਦੀ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਖੋਜ ਪ੍ਰਸਤੁਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਦੂਸਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਲੇਖਕ ਦੁਆਰਾ 300 ਸਾਲ ਬਾਦ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰਸਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਦੇਹੀ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਪੇਸ਼ ਹੈ।

In 1706, Guru Gobind Singh Ji began his journey southward from Talwandi Sabo with a few Sikhs. By February 1707, he had to redirect his journey towards Delhi and Agra. Later that year, he resumed his travels southward from Agra. In 1708, upon reaching the Hyderabad province, he established his camp at Nanded. From here, he sent Baba Banda Singh Bahadur to Punjab. It was also at this location that he entrusted the Guru Granth Sahib with the gurta-gaddi (spiritual leadership) and made his final departure.

Thus, Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s southern journey and the year 1708 proved to be transformative events for the Sikh community. This book narrates the historical experiences of that period.
